Class Cancelled Today / Post to the blog
Hey Guys,
Hope you all had a nice rested spring break and are ready for a final month push towards exciting final projects.
Unfortunately, I can not make it to class today due to a series of unforeseen complications with my business. We will resume tutorials and desk crits next friday.
In the meantime, I would like you all to post your midterm presentations on the blog. Please do this today.
Also, you should all have some research on all car structure types and also on car show booths. Please post this starting tomorrow. (in order to keep the midterm projects together, please post all midterm images today)
Continue working on your simulations and assemblage systems for next week. Please post your progress no later than this coming wednesday for feedback.
See you all next friday!
Best,
Jovan

Midterm
Hey Guys,
Today is the day! Here is the line up order.
1-Keith
2-Mario
3-Paolo
4-Manny
5-Alvaro
Everyone should have a digital folder ready to upload @ 3:00. If your folder is not uploaded by 3:30 you will not be allowed to present. Good Luck! and See you at 3.
Best,
Jovan

Where are your posts?
Hey guys take a look at this, as this help you as you develop your systems. You will understand more when I pass out the Midterm assignment sheet today in class... Where are your posts?

Assignment 2
For those of you who were absent last friday. Here is the official assignment. You are already expected to have work to show for tomorrow. Please post playblasts tonight.
2. Kinematics: Motion & Rigid Bodies
Let us consider the definition of Kinematics in relation to our process of assemblage.
Kinematics (from Greek κινεῖν, kinein, to move) is the branch of classical mechanics that describes the motion of objects without consideration of the causes leading to the motion. 1
The simplest application of kinematics is for particle motion, translational or rotational. The next level of complexity is introduced by the introduction of rigid bodies, which are collections of particles having time invariant distances amongst themselves. Rigid bodies might undergo translation and rotation or a combination of both. A more complicated case is the kinematics of a system of rigid bodies, possibly linked together by mechanical joints. 1
As we explore the potential of our morphological tendencies, you should start focusing on movement, and rotation as a system of growth and assembly. The goal of this exercise is to arive at a porous medium.
This exercise will lead students to an exploration of behavior deformations in form and dynamic control through techniques in (but not limited to)
Particle Dynamics
Goals
Fields
Soft bodies
Rigid bodies
Rigging
Fluid Dynamics
Students will be critiqued and graded through work shown during desk crits, blog posts, and pin ups. Students will present work while in a state of motion using animation playback, playblasts, and rendered animations.

Take a Look at This
Hey guys use this as an example of a system of assemblage. At this point, you should focus on small scale no larger than a room. Here is a link you should look at. This is the minimum level detail that is expected. This a better alternative to typical linear aggregation.

Big Push This Week, Midterm Next Week
Hey guys,
We have to give a big push this week and the next. I want you to work on the behavior assignment working in the realm of dynamics and I want you to start developing systems of assemblage with the cells you are developing. You should have multiple options for this friday. I also expect to see a first pass at behavioral effects to your cells.
Next Friday, March 12th. will be your midterm. I am inviting Eric Goldemberg, Erik Sunquist, and Kevin Regalado (Sci-Arc Graduate, worked with Tom Wiscombe @ Emergent Architecture for 2 years). You will all need to work on your presentations and arguments. This is a developmental exercise so you don't have to have anything figured out. However, a lot is expected as far as work goes. I will go over the requirements this friday. Until then, you all should produce a lot of work so that you are better off for the midterm.
Best,
Jovan
